Fenley Scurlock & Jason Liaw
are teen entrepreneurs and lifelong friends.
Fenley is a student at Stanford Online High School. He launched a business making artisanal soaps and pens when he was seven and he sells his products at farmers markets, through his online store, and at kids’ business fairs. He has won multiple business, sales, and marketing awards; judged entrepreneur competitions; and been interviewed by local and national media. He is also a multidisciplinary writer, and has honed his craft at the Kenyon Young Writers Workshop, Stanford Summer Institutes, Yale Young Writers Workshop, Writopia, and Ellipsis, and his work has been honored with a Gold Key award by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. He is currently working on a fantasy trilogy.
Jason is a student in the science, math, and computer science (SMCS) magnet program at Poolesville High School and a three-time class president. Jason started coding at twelve and was soon hired to develop websites for a local chamber of commerce. He has won regional and state entrepreneurship competitions, making connections with like-minded entrepreneurs. As an ABC—American-born Chinese— Jason navigates the (business) world in two languages.
